Two Mets Bloggers Wanted

August 23, 2008 By: Keith Category: Die Hard Mets Fan, MLB, New York Mets 1 Comment →

I apologize to all of you for not writing as much as I have been for the past couple of weeks. I was on unemployment for about six months, and I just landed a full-time job. I also lined up two part-time gigs to raise capital to invest into this website, launch other websites, and to get into other industries that we are not a part of yet. Unfortunately, I will be writing much more infrequently now. Once I get settled into the new jobs, I hope to write one or two posts per day about the Giants, and one post per day about the Mets.

The good news is that I am looking to hire two Mets Bloggers for Die Hard Mets Fan. Both Bloggers will write daily. One will write between the hours of midnight and 2 p.m., and the other will write between the hours of 2 p.m. and midnight. Each Blogger will also be responsible for promoting the site daily. Prior Blogging experience is preferred. Please contact me for details.

PS - We are also hiring Bloggers for other teams so please contact me if you are interested.

Sunday’s Mets News: Happy Mother’s Day!

May 11, 2008 By: Keith Category: Aaron Heilman, Billy Wagner, Bobby Valentine, Carlos Beltran, Carlos Delgado, David Wright, Die Hard Mets Fan, Johan Santana, Luis Castillo, MLB, Mike Pelfrey, New York Mets, Shea Stadium, Willie Randolph No Comments →

Die Hard Mets Fan would like to wish you a Happy Mother’s Day!  The Mets won the weekend series against the Reds, and then the Nats are coming to Queens tomorrow for a four-game series.  Hopefully, we can continue to watch the Metsies beat up on the scrubs of the NL.  Next weekend begins the first interleague series, and the Mets will be in the Bronx for the weekend for the first Subway Series of ‘08.

Quirks and all, Perez picks up victory - Marty Noble summarized today’s game between the Reds and the Mets.

Strained left quad stops Castillo - Marty Noble reported that Luis Castillo had to leave today’s game against the Reds because he strained his left quad in the 5th Inning.

Pelfrey undergoing transformation - Marty Noble stated that last night’s loss to the Reds was in some ways a moral victory for Mike Pelfrey because he pitched 6 innings allowing 2 runs.  After a couple of poor performances, Pelfrey made some changes which led to an improved outing last night.  His teammates informed him that he was tipping off his pitches by chewing on his mouthpiece when he threw fastballs, but not when he threw breaking balls.  So one change was getting rid of the mouthpiece, and the other change was not using what he claims is his best pitch (the two seam fastball) because it hasn’t been successful lately.

Pelfrey solid, but Mets fall in nightcap - Marty Noble summarized last night’s game between the Reds and the Mets.

Beltran powers Mets in matinee - Marty Noble summarized yesterday’s game between the Reds and the Mets.

Mets aim to stay solid vs. weaker clubs - Marty Noble put together a pregame analysis for today’s game between the Reds and the Mets.

Son of former Met a chip off old block - Marty Noble lets us know how the son of former Mets’ catcher Ron Hodges, Casey Hodges, who pitches for Mount Olive College is doing so far in his collegiate career.

Newsday:

Subpar Santana still good enough for Mets - Mark Herrman summarized yesterday’s double header between the Reds and the Mets.

Pelfrey still improving despite loss

Mets’ Beltran primed to break funk - Ken Davidoff stated that Carlos Beltran may get out of the funk after his 5-RBI game in the first game against the Reds.

New York Daily News:

Carlos Beltran, Ryan Church hit back-to-back homers as Mets blast Reds - The AP summarized today’s Reds-Mets game.

Mets are like night and day in doubleheader, split games vs. Reds - Anthony McCarron also summarized yesterday’s Reds-Mets double header.

Johan Santana seems slow to change up Mets’ fortunes

Wagner loses his cool on watercooler - Kristie Ackert tells us that Billy Wagner took out his frustrations on the water cooler in the dugout after he stunk it up in the 9th Inning of last night’s game against the Reds.

Like night & day for Aaron Heilman - Kristie Ackert explained how different Aaron Heilman was when used in both games of yesterday’s double header.

Lucky 7th for Carlos Delgado - Mark Lelinwalla describes how successful Carlos Delgado was when batting in the seventh spot of the lineup in yesterday’s day game against the Reds.

Junior achievements wow Willie - Since the Reds are in town and Griffey is close to hitting his 600th Home Run, Anthony McCarron found out what Willie Randolph’s thoughts are on Ken Griffey Jr.’s exceptional career.  McCarron also provided some stats for what could’ve been for the slugger.

Griffey has struggled to stay healthy his entire career. He could have played 3,115 games over his career if he had played every game of every season he’s been in the majors, including this one. But he’s only played in 2,414, or 77.5%. He’s missed 701 games, or more than four full seasons. Still, he’s hit 597 homers.

Bobby Valentine has ‘zen’ moment in new movie - Patrick Huguenin found out that three NYU students made a documentary about Bobby Valentine titled, ”The Zen of Bobby V”.  The documentary “examines Valentine’s remarkable adaptation to a baseball culture far from home.”  Bobby V is now the manager of Japan’s Chiba Lotte Marines.  I gotta check out this flick because it seems like it will crack me up.

What to do with three hours of dead time - Colin Stephenson lets us know what some of the players did during the three and a half hour break in between yesterday’s double header.

Saturday’s Mets News: Mets Fans Pics Wanted

March 15, 2008 By: Keith Category: Aaron Heilman, Brian Schneider, David Wright, Die Hard Mets Fan, Jason Vargas, Johan Santana, John Maine, Jose Valentin, Luis Castillo, MLB, New York Mets, Pedro Martinez, Ramon Castro, Scott Schoeneweis, Spring Training, Willie Randolph No Comments →

The Mets dropped another Spring Training game to the Cards.  Like I said the last time the Mets lost to the Cardinals, I hate when that happens.

Once again, Die Hard Mets Fan would like to remind you that you can send us photos of you and your buddies in Mets gear so we can post it on the appropriate page above.  Click on one of the photo tabs in the header bar for more information.  Readers love to see pics of other Mets fans.  I can tell that many people find our fansite looking for photos of Mets fans and Mets tattoos, but there aren’t any yet.  We would greatly appreciate it if you send us some.

Note: We are looking for a few more Mets Bloggers to become a better Mets blog.  We are looking to cover many aspects of the Mets daily so you can more or less choose to write where your strenghts are.  If you are interested then please click on the ‘Write for Us’ link in the sidebar for more information.

Castillo reaps benefits of slow return - Anthony DiComo lets us know that Luis Castillo feels great in his Grapefruit League debut.

Johan, Mets remain vexed by Cards - Anthony DiComo summarized today’s game between the Cardinals and the Mets.  The Cards beat the Mets 10-3.  Johan Santana got the start.  The Mets are 10-7-1 in the Grapefruit League standings.

Vargas seeks second opinion on hip - Anthony DiComo reported that ”Jason Vargas traveled to Colorado on Saturday for a second opinion on his sore left hip, which may require surgery.”

Camp nearing end, Mets roster ailing - Marty Noble stated that the calendar is counting down and the lineup remains incomplete.

Which teams have the best defense? - Lyle Spencer pointed out that MLB.com produced a list of the five premier defensive units heading into 2008.  This list includes these teams: New York Mets, Toronto Blue Jays, Arizona Diamondbacks, Colorado Rockies, and Kansas City Royals.  Spencer explained why each of these teams made the list, and here is what he wrote about the Mets:

Johan Santana, whose glove is a matching accessory to his golden arm, will enjoy watching his new teammates pick it. Jose Reyes is the game’s premier defensive infielder in the view of advance scouts participating in MLB.com’s survey, and his partner on the left side, Gold Glover David Wright, also is first-rate. Ryan Church enhances an outfield that features Gold Glover Carlos Beltran and arguably the game’s best all-purpose sub in Endy Chavez. There are no serious chinks in manager Willie Randolph’s defensive armor.

Pitchers row laughs are par for course - Marty Noble revealed that Pedro Martinez was never into golfing like most MLB pitchers are, but now Martinez brought a golf bag to Spring Training, and said this to his colleagues, “You guys are going to teach me. If someone can tell me where to put my feet, I’ll be all right.”

Newsday:

Mets’ Valentin makes a major plea about his role - Anthony Rieber wrote that “Jose Valentin knows the Mets have made him no promises. He knows they signed Luis Castillo to a four-year contract to play second base. He also knows he signed a minor-league deal that allows the team to send him down if he doesn’t make the Opening Day roster.”  If Valentin does not make the team, he said, “I mean, I’m not going down there because they say I don’t make it. I don’t have to prove something in Triple-A. Money-wise, it’s not a big deal. I think that if I just shut it down right now and retire, I’ve still got enough money to live the rest of my life.”

New York Daily News:

Willie Randolph closes in on opener - Adam Rubin pointed out that Willie Randolph needs to get the full squad together in order to get ready for the season.

Jimmy Rollins repeats NL East boast - Here’s what Jimmy Rollins was quoted as saying in the April issue of Men’s Journal.  “That wasn’t a one-year thing. It’s still gonna ring true in 2008, and every year I’m with the Phillies. We’re going to win. It’s gonna come down to who wants it more, and we want to win more than the Mets do. Truthfully, I don’t worry about anybody in our division, or anybody in our league for that matter. I’m not worried about getting into the playoffs, because that part is accomplished. We’re a playoff team now. Our next goal is to win the World Series.”

New York Post:

BURNING QUESTION - Bart Hubbuch believes that Aaron Heilman has settled into the bullpen, but he still would prefer to be in the starting rotation.

AMAZIN’ STAFF HAS ANOTHER MAINE MAN

New York Times:

Soothsayer to Mets Won’t Brush Off Signs - Karen Crouse tells a story of a Mets fan in Floriday.

Castillo Feels No Pain in Spring Debut

Mets’ Schoeneweis Puts Painful Year Behind Him - Charlie Nobles discusses the injuries that Scott Schoeneweis suffered last season, and how he aims to put last year behind him.

The Star-Ledger:

Castillo plays, feels healthy

Getting Things Started Wright - Matthew Artus has spent the last few days pondering a debate that arose recently over at Shea Nation regarding where David Wright should bat in the Mets’ lineup.  In his article, he makes his case.

Castro is also a big hit on field - Jeremy Cothran revealed Ramon Castro as the prankster that placed the bubble gum on Castillo.

With 5 at-bats, Schneider feels he’ll be ready

Die Hard Mets Fan is Back!

January 19, 2008 By: Keith Category: Die Hard Mets Fan, MLB, New York Mets No Comments →

On behalf of DieHardSportsFan.net and Die Hard Mets Fan, I apologize for the site being inaccessible.  Apparantly, the website outgrew the hosting package.  My hosting company decided to shut it down rather than warn me that it was going to happen.  Once the dialogue began, the hosting company had to move the website from one server to another and the process took longer than I was hoping it would.  Again, my apologies.

Welcome to ‘Die Hard Mets Fan’!

September 01, 2007 By: Keith Category: Die Hard Mets Fan, MLB, New York Mets No Comments →

Welcome to ’Die Hard Mets Fan‘!  I will be bringing you news, rumors, opinions, and analysis about the New York Mets.  I have been waiting all summer to launch this site, but I have been waiting to partner up with some people.  Unfortunately, I was unable to find any Mets fans that wanted to help me.  So, I’m launching this solo, and I will do the best that I can to finish the 2007 Mets season.  It’s already September 1, 2007, but I’m hoping that I can do this for two months instead of one, if you know what I mean.
